FOS stands for fructooligosaccharides, categorised as dietary fibre. It is naturally found in plants such as asparagus, onions and artichoke. Fructooligosaccharides are substances of plant origin that are not digested and are not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract.
FOS are also known as prebiotics, i.e. substances that are not digested and have a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal microflora. NOW Foods NutraFlora FOS is a dietary supplement in powder form containing dietary fibre and fructooligosaccharides. Start taking with 1/2 teaspoon a day added to water or juice. Gradually increase the amount to 2 teaspoons per day as required.
