It is part of selected phospholipids, which is why scientists initially included it in the B vitamins, calling it vitamin B4. Today, it is known that it can only be considered a vitamin-like vitamin. It is most commonly found in a form called phosphatidylcholine. This substance contributes to the normal metabolism of homocysteine and lipids. It also influences proper liver function.
