The Now Foods brand supplement contains extract of devil's claw. The terms devil's claw and devil's claw are colloquial names for the spreading hackberry plant. This creeping plant grows up to 50 cm in height and 1.5 metres in length. It occurs naturally mainly in Southern Africa. The roots of the hacorrhiza plant are used in the production of supplements.
The ingredients include:
- Black claw - contains iridoids, most notably herpagoside, flavonoids, sterols, triterpenes and phenolacids. This plant stimulates the secretion of digestive juices, thereby improving appetite and digestion.
Recommended intake: 2 capsules no more than 2-3 times a day with meals.Contraindications for the use of devil's claw are: use of cardiac medications, stomach or duodenal ulcers, diabetes, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
