Indians called it the 'sugar destroyer' because the acids in its leaves temporarily interfere with the perception of sweet taste by receptors on the tongue. It reduces the appetite for sweets thus helping with weight control. Helps maintain normal blood glucose and insulin levels. Reduces the absorption of sugar from the gut into the blood.
